Environmental Performance Top of Page

  • On December 16, 1996, the Tlalpan facility was the first BMS Worldwide Medicines plant certified under the ISO 14001 standard for environmental management systems. The facility was the first pharmaceutical facility in Mexico to be certified under this standard. Site management simultaneously pursued ISO 9002 registration, which was achieved in March 1997. This effort reinforced the teamwork ethic at the site and provided the opportunity to eliminate redundancies in quality and EHS procedures.
  • The certification of ISO 14001 (achieved in 1996), jointly with ISO 9002 (achieved in 2000), has improved the efficiency of all personnel in the plant. These standards are a management system that covers the organizational structure, planning, responsibilities, practices, procedures, and resources. Included in the process are the follow-up, re-examination, and maintenance of the facility's Environmental and Quality Policies. This has created one strategic vision for the facility, and has established personal and team objectives that are aligned with that vision.

Major EHS impacts at the site and actions taken or planned to reduce these impacts

  • By optimizing the use or purchase of resources, energy, combustibles, water and raw materials, this plant has been able to:
    • Reduce costs of waste management and eliminate wastes
    • Rationalize process investments to improve safety, thereby reducing risks of accidents and need for emergency actions.
    • Reduce accidents in the last five years
    • Enhance the Company image and competitiveness
